Maharajahs Blog

The Maharajahs Indian Restaurant and Takeaway does great Indian food – and fantastic takeaways for delivery or collection in Edinburgh. There are certain things that make takeaway food special – such as making sure the food is delivered as quick as possible and is still piping hot when it gets to your door. Once you have it at home – there is the delight of the aroma of well cooked tasty food as you prepare to enjoy your meal.

An Indian banquet is such a great way to spend an evening – and given all you need to do is wash up the plates afterwards – what is stopping you? If you’re not sure what you fancy – why not try one of our Featured Dishes from past months – or ask us what we recommend.

Give us a call on 0131 466 7281 and enjoy a takeaway tonight.

Have you ever had that feeling when you’ve just sat down that it feels so comfy that you just don’t want to stand up again. If you’re feeling like that but the phone is out of reach – you’ll be pleased to hear that if you are reading this you have all you need to order a fantastic Indian curry.

Our online ordering facility means that our whole Takeaway menu is available to you – and is easy as can be to order from. If you have any special requests you can even let us know about those and you can even see how much you are spending (so maybe you can make that upgrade to king prawns!). So give our online ordering a try – the only downside is that you’ll need to get off your chair when we bring it to the door.

It’s always great going out for a meal – but sometimes there is something very appealing about enjoying a meal in the warmth and comfort of your own home. That joy is only further enhanced when you don’t have to cook that food yourself.

Great Indian food like ours is a joy everywhere – and after a long day – relaxing at home in front of something on TV it just becomes even more of a pleasure.

Free Delivery for orders over £12!

Our food is available for takeaway or delivery – and if you spend over £12 and live within 2 miles – your delivery will be free. This means if you live in nearby Newington, Liberton, Little France or wherever – you could be enjoying our meal without leaving the front door.

Give us a call on 0131 466 7281 and order your meal – we look forward to making your evening.

Whether you are hoping to come and see Biffy Clyro in concert – or perhaps just to soak up the atmosphere of an incredible street party before witnessing the fantastic fireworks from the seven hills, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay party is one to savour. Every year our city braces itself as a phenomenal volume of people decend on us from all over the world to experience something special.

Edinburgh Accommodation

Here in Edinburgh’s Newington – a hub of local residents, bed and breakfasts and hotels it is always a lively time of year with revellers keen to walk the short distance to the city centre and the street party.

If your mother is anything like mine before such a grand evening she would advise you to wrap up warm and get a good meal inside you. Well – we can’t help you wrap up warm – but we can give you great Indian food. Whether you are local or a tourist, come and see us before you head out and dine in style. Whether you are enjoying eating curry in our restaurant or taking our Indian food away to enjoy as you walk into town – we’re here to help.

Merry Christmas from everyone at Maharajahs restaurant and takeaway!

A Great Takeaway

Wednesday Dec 15, 2010 | Maharajahs, Takeaway

The following is a great meal – wherever you enjoy it. Some dishes just don’t seem to travel as well as others – these do – so please enjoy!

Starter – Vegetable Pakora / Assorted Kebabs

If you like meat – you’ll love our assorted kebabs – a range of chicken and lamb to kick start any meal. If you’d prefer vegetables our lovely selection of fresh vegetables coated and fried are guaranteed to be real treat for you.

Main – Shahi Murgh Tikka Massallam

Beautiful bone free pieces of chicken are marinated before being barbecued in the tandoor. Once cooked they are added to a delightful fresh sauce with tomatoes, cream and a fresh mixture of herbs and spices.

Side Dish – Sag Panir or Sag Aloo

For these two dishes we’re sticking with spinach. It is up to you to choose between accompanying this with potato or fresh tasting Indian paneer cheese.

Mushroom Pilau Rice

Perfectly cooked rice with the added addition of lovely flavoursome mushrooms.

Peshwari Nan

Lovely puffy naan bread stuffed with sultanas and ground almonds – fantastic.

With Christmas coming up we thought we’d better let you know when we are here. After all – if you want a great curry – you’ll need to know when we’re about so you can come along and spice up your day.

Curry Everyday?

The Maharajah’s Indian Restaurant will be open every day over the festive period offering our usual fantastic range of Indian and Bangladeshi food to the citizens of Edinburgh. The only change to our hours will be on Christmas Day itself when we will be open from 2pm to 8pm. So if you are looking to book a table, or are planning a takeaway or delivery we’ll be here to help. Give us a call on 0131 466 7281 or use our online form and reserve yourself a slot.

At this time of year looking out of the window in the evening is a bit of a mixed bag. Its always dark – sometimes pouring with rain and often windy and beyond even these it is really really cold (although admittedly you can’t see that)!  Whatever you think it’s not really very appealing – and who wants to be walking the street or out in the car if they don’t have to be?

Dhansak to your door

Our full menu of Indian delicacies is available for home delivery and takeaway – so if you don’t fancy braving the elements, just give us a call and we’ll deliver to any of the following areas in Edinburgh: Alnwickhill, Blackford, Braids, Burdiehouse, Cameron Toll, Carnbee, Craigmillar, Frogston, Gilmerton, Grange, Howdenhall, Liberton, Little France, Loanhead, Marchmont, Mayfield, Moredun ark, Morningside, Mortonhall, Newington, Niddrie, Old Dalkeith Road, Swanston, The Inch and The Murrays.

If where you live isn’t in the list give us a call – we’ll let you know whether we can make it to you!

Here at the Maharajahs Indian Restaurant and Takeaway in Edinburgh we have two main sets of customers. The first of these is locals who know great Indian food and know that they can rely on us to provide it, whether they are dining in or taking advantage of our takeaway service. We recognise a lot of faces (and with some, we don’t even need to ask what they want any more!).

Home Cooked Food on Holiday

Our second group of guests is the more transient customer – people coming to Edinburgh to enjoy the sights and beauty of our city and staying in one of the guest houses or hotels nearby. After a day walking and seeing the sights they are not only looking for a great meal but also somewhere near to their bed! It’s not unusual for people to order food to take away and then try and sneak it back upstairs to sit on their bed and watch TV as they eat.

Whether you fit into the first or second category we don’t mind – we love creating great Indian food that we know you’ll enjoy and will give you all the energy you need for the next day!

The last day of this month is one you either love or hate.   October 31st is Halloween, a traditional festival celebrated with a range of activities across the country as well as lots of hollowed out pumpkins on many window sills.

Whilst we could suggest that you use that lovely sweet pumpkin flesh to make your own delightful curry we have a better suggestion for celebrating Halloween. How about avoiding the trick and treaters with a lovely evening out at Edinburgh’s finest Indian restaurant and the perfect creations coming out of our kitchen.

Alternatively, enjoy our great food as a takeaway, just remember to order an extra side of our veggie samosas to give the kids at the door a proper hybrid Indian treat.
