August’s Chicken Dish of the Month

When the name of a dish translates as “the favourite one” you know there is something special going on. Not only that – but this month’s dish is named after Nurjahan – the favourite Empress of the Mughal Dynasty.

Mild Curry with Flavour!

Our Pasanda is a nice mildly spiced curry with full flavours. We take nice fresh halal chicken breast and cook them with fresh cream, herbs and spices. To this we add the richness and flavour of ground almonds to make the perfect Indian flavour. We finally garnish with cashew nuts for the ultimate smooth dish.

The perfect way to enjoy this dish? Served over freshly cooked fluffy Pilau Rice and let us warn you – you’ll need a nice Plain Nan bread to make sure you soak up all the gravy!!

August’s Lamb Dish of the Month

There are some things that people can cook at home – and we’d certainly encourage you to have a try at making curry – but one thing it is impossible to duplicate is cooking in a tandoor (clay oven). The classic clay oven – with temperatures approaching 500 degrees centigrade lets our chefs create some incredible flavours and tastes.

Our Lamb Tikka Massallam is a perfect example of this – the lamb is marinaded in spiced yoghurt giving it fantastic rich flavour and colour. Once the flavours are infused – our chef barbecues it in our tandoor – and the phenomenal heat means that all the taste is kept in ready for you to enjoy.

Once cooked – we create a sauce of medium spice, with the tang of fresh tomatoes and fresh herbs. This is a dish to be enjoyed with lightly flavoured rice and bread.

Edinburgh in August is something else – as the festival hits town and the whole city is absorbed in a full range of different forms of entertainment – ranging from some of the best comedy to world renowned dance troupes, circuses and the vibrance and colour of the annual visit of the Lady Boys of Bangkok!

Located in a world of guest houses and hotels – we know the city is busy – and whilst there is nothing like getting involved and soaking up the atmosphere – sometimes there is nothing better than getting away from the crowds. Whether you stay nearby – or just want to get away from the hustle and bustle – stretch your legs and get along to the Maharajahs – great food at a safe distance from the madness!

As with all the very best cities – Edinburgh has an annual Mela to celebrate Asian culture across the city. This year the Mela is being held at Leith Links and the expectation is that the weather is going to be dry and warm.

Cultures from all over the world

The Mela is perhaps a bit of a walk from us here in Liberton – but it’s an easy bus ride – and a fantastic opportunity to experience authentic foods, dancing, music and outdoor activities. There will also be lots of activities to keep the children happy (and under twelves get in for free!)

Immerse yourself in Indian Culture at Maharajahs

We’re looking forward to a weekend of culture – and what better way to end the day than a lovely Indian meal at a great Indian restaurant!  Just give us a call on 0131 466 7281 to book a table at the Maharajahs or reserve online.

In February we told you all about our most popular meal order – and now, six months later not much has changed at all.  This tells us two interesting things about our customers – firstly that they like a bit of spice and secondly that they stick to a good thing once they’ve found it!

The menu is as follows:

  • Starter - Chicken Pakora
  • Main dish – North Indian Chilli Garlic Chicken
  • Accompanients – Served with a Garlic Nan and a serving of Pilau Rice

Change your Curry

If you’ve been eating this non stop for 6 months – or it looks a bit daunting – here are 2 changes that will make it seem like a whole new meal.

Firstly – how about trying Lamb as opposed to Chicken in the main course – a whole new taste and flavour sensation – plus the meat will just melt away in your mouth.

Secondly – try a different naan – add some lightness with the peshwari – or just add more meat to your meal with a nice spicy keema.

Around this time of year Edinburgh Students start to head home to Mum and Dad to get their washing done and a proper meal.  What this means for the city is that Edinburgh University’s Pollock Halls (the main student halls) as well as numerous flats across the city inhabited by more business minded students are let out to all manner of new guests.  Whether people are coming to enjoy Edinburgh city and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, or for some, coming up for conferences there are lots of new faces around the city.

Edinburgh’s Best Indian Restaurant

Here are the Maharajahs Indian Restaurant we welcome you to our beautiful city.  We are within walking distance from Pollock Halls (or a short taxi ride home if you over indulge a bit!) and will create a perfect curry evening for you – whether you are looking to entertain delegates, have a relaxing meal – or just fancy a taste of home.

Arthur's Seat

One of the best ways to enjoy our beautiful city of Edinburgh is by foot.  If it is a nice day – strolling around and seeing everything going on is very hard to beat.  Not only is it good for you – but what a great way to build up an appetite!

One of the most impressive aspects of Edinburgh is Arthur’s Seat – a 251 metre hill that hovers over the city.  A brisk walk either to the peak is extremely popular with tourists and locals (including the tradition of washing one’s face in the dew on Mayday to ensure eternally young skin!) and is one that should be attempted however long you are staying for.

Indian Sustenance

From our location we can strongly recommend taking advantage of both the appetite building aspect of the walk – as well as the filling nature of our fantastic Indian dishes.  It is pretty much a perfect loop to walk from here – and if you’re willing to brace the winds at the peak – whatever you eat will taste that little bit better.
