Maharajahs Blog

It’s always great going out for a meal – but sometimes there is something very appealing about enjoying a meal in the warmth and comfort of your own home. That joy is only further enhanced when you don’t have to cook that food yourself.

Great Indian food like ours is a joy everywhere – and after a long day – relaxing at home in front of something on TV it just becomes even more of a pleasure.

Whether you are hoping to come and see Biffy Clyro in concert – or perhaps just to soak up the atmosphere of an incredible street party before witnessing the fantastic fireworks from the seven hills, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay party is one to savour. Every year our city braces itself as a phenomenal volume of people decend on us from all over the world to experience something special.

Edinburgh Accommodation

Here in Edinburgh’s Newington – a hub of local residents, bed and breakfasts and hotels it is always a lively time of year with revellers keen to walk the short distance to the city centre and the street party.

If your mother is anything like mine before such a grand evening she would advise you to wrap up warm and get a good meal inside you. Well – we can’t help you wrap up warm – but we can give you great Indian food. Whether you are local or a tourist, come and see us before you head out and dine in style. Whether you are enjoying eating curry in our restaurant or taking our Indian food away to enjoy as you walk into town – we’re here to help.

The festive period is gripping our beautiful city of Edinburgh with a wide range of events going on to bring the magic to our streets. From our location we are within walking distance (or a bus if you fancy) from many of these – including the annual Christmas Fun in the Gardens of Princes Street.

Each year the city welcomes a wide range of exciting stalls and attractions. This year these include the regular Big Wheel which offers incredible views across the city (it isn’t too high for those of you less comfortable with heights!) and is always worth a ride. In addition to this the wooden huts of the German market have returned with warming hot fragrant gluhwein to allow you to prepare yourselves for the open air ice rink where you can recreate the glory of Robin Cousins or Torvill and Dean. There is a lot more going on and it is well worth a visit.

If you’re staying in one of the nearby hotels or Bed and Breakfasts – we have to warn you that it is uncommonly cold this year – so what better than bracing yourself with great food. Prepare yourself for the weather by coming along to Maharajahs and grabbing a great curry before heading our, or maybe after enjoying your day in the city warm yourself up with some great freshly cooked food in our relaxing restaurant.

Here in Edinburgh it is peak time for the local guest houses and hotels. With the city looking as beautiful as ever in the winter and with numerous events going on for the next couple of months we’re expecting to see lots of new faces as tourists come and go.

Naans across Newington

With it’s plethora of bed and breakfasts nearby Newington is one of the handiest places to stay to see the city. So – while you’re staying nearby, why not pop in and enjoy a great Indian meal at the Maharajahs. Our curries are great for takeaway too – so you can enjoy them in the peace of your room if you’d prefer.

If you do fancy a great meal, you can bring your own bottle and we won’t charge any corkage. Why not bring along a bottle from home and have a evening to remember here in Edinburgh.

Here at the Maharajahs Indian Restaurant and Takeaway in Edinburgh we have two main sets of customers. The first of these is locals who know great Indian food and know that they can rely on us to provide it, whether they are dining in or taking advantage of our takeaway service. We recognise a lot of faces (and with some, we don’t even need to ask what they want any more!).

Home Cooked Food on Holiday

Our second group of guests is the more transient customer – people coming to Edinburgh to enjoy the sights and beauty of our city and staying in one of the guest houses or hotels nearby. After a day walking and seeing the sights they are not only looking for a great meal but also somewhere near to their bed! It’s not unusual for people to order food to take away and then try and sneak it back upstairs to sit on their bed and watch TV as they eat.

Whether you fit into the first or second category we don’t mind – we love creating great Indian food that we know you’ll enjoy and will give you all the energy you need for the next day!

We know that lots of our customers are currently preparing themselves for the celebration of Eid fasting from dawn to dusk for Ramadan – and we wish them all the best.

Whether you are joining them or not – our chefs continue to create our delectable Indian treats ready for you to enjoy here in our Indian Restaurant, in the warmth and comfort of your home, or sneakily upstairs in your hotel or guest house room!

So whether you are just wanting great Indian food during your stay in Scotland – or you are breaking your day of fasting – give us a call on 0131 466 7281 – our food is always ready for you.

Edinburgh in August is something else – as the festival hits town and the whole city is absorbed in a full range of different forms of entertainment – ranging from some of the best comedy to world renowned dance troupes, circuses and the vibrance and colour of the annual visit of the Lady Boys of Bangkok!

Located in a world of guest houses and hotels – we know the city is busy – and whilst there is nothing like getting involved and soaking up the atmosphere – sometimes there is nothing better than getting away from the crowds. Whether you stay nearby – or just want to get away from the hustle and bustle – stretch your legs and get along to the Maharajahs – great food at a safe distance from the madness!
