Super Starters!

Monday Dec 27, 2010 | Maharajahs

There are some starters that you just wish would never finish. Once you’ve started them – you’re regretting ordering that main course and just wishing you could order the same again.

King Prawn Butterfly

Meaty king prawns are perfect. There is something nice about cooking them and peeling them – but this dish does something even better. The large prawns are coated in light batter before being quickly fried and served with a fantastic dipping sauce – excellence in a starter.

Maharajahs Assorted Kebabs

Creating great tasting kebabs requires a lot of preparation as the meat is delicately and carefully flavoured with a mixture of herbs and spices. This fantastic tasting meat is then fired in the intense heat of the tandoor ready to be eaten enjoyed! This starter is served with a lovely sauce to dip the sumptuous meat into.

Chicken Pakoras

This one is similar to the King Prawn Butterfly. For this dish lovely pieces of chicken are fried in light batter before being served with a lovely crisp salad. There is nothing better than squeezing fresh lemon juice over these before enjoying.

Featured Dishes for December

Monday Dec 27, 2010 | Featured Dishes, Maharajahs

This month it is time to break free of the traditional Korma, Bhuna, Madras or whichever ‘standard’ curry you generally opt for. Here at Maharajahs our menu is wide and varied and there are some really special dishes that you’d miss if you always opt for one of the more recognised curry dishes. This month we’re celebrating two – so try them and love them!

Featured Dish – Mughlai Chana Gosht

Monday Dec 27, 2010 | Featured Dishes, Maharajahs

Lamb is a meat that cries out to be slowly cooked to release it’s flavour and to allow it to take on that perfect tender texture where it melts in your mouth.  In this curry, the lamb is prepared in that exact manner with chick peas and the tang of fresh lemons.  Our chefs then spice this further with some fresh ginger and green coriander leaves.  This is one best served with a few chapatis and eaten without using cutlery.

Featured Dish – Chicken Jaipuri

Monday Dec 27, 2010 | Featured Dishes, Maharajahs

Generally mushrooms don’t spring to mind when people are thinking of great curry.  In this beautiful chicken dish mushrooms are fried with peppers and onion to create the base of a rich thick sauce.  The chicken itself comes freshly grilled from the tandoor – and has that perfect barbecue texture.  For this dish we’d recommend you double up on the mushrooms by enjoying it with some lovely Mushroom Pilau Rice.

Edinburgh’s Christmas

Friday Dec 17, 2010 | Edinburgh, Maharajahs, Restaurant

The festive period is gripping our beautiful city of Edinburgh with a wide range of events going on to bring the magic to our streets. From our location we are within walking distance (or a bus if you fancy) from many of these – including the annual Christmas Fun in the Gardens of Princes Street.

Each year the city welcomes a wide range of exciting stalls and attractions. This year these include the regular Big Wheel which offers incredible views across the city (it isn’t too high for those of you less comfortable with heights!) and is always worth a ride. In addition to this the wooden huts of the German market have returned with warming hot fragrant gluhwein to allow you to prepare yourselves for the open air ice rink where you can recreate the glory of Robin Cousins or Torvill and Dean. There is a lot more going on and it is well worth a visit.

If you’re staying in one of the nearby hotels or Bed and Breakfasts – we have to warn you that it is uncommonly cold this year – so what better than bracing yourself with great food. Prepare yourself for the weather by coming along to Maharajahs and grabbing a great curry before heading our, or maybe after enjoying your day in the city warm yourself up with some great freshly cooked food in our relaxing restaurant.

A Great Takeaway

Wednesday Dec 15, 2010 | Maharajahs, Takeaway

The following is a great meal – wherever you enjoy it. Some dishes just don’t seem to travel as well as others – these do – so please enjoy!

Starter – Vegetable Pakora / Assorted Kebabs

If you like meat – you’ll love our assorted kebabs – a range of chicken and lamb to kick start any meal. If you’d prefer vegetables our lovely selection of fresh vegetables coated and fried are guaranteed to be real treat for you.

Main – Shahi Murgh Tikka Massallam

Beautiful bone free pieces of chicken are marinated before being barbecued in the tandoor. Once cooked they are added to a delightful fresh sauce with tomatoes, cream and a fresh mixture of herbs and spices.

Side Dish – Sag Panir or Sag Aloo

For these two dishes we’re sticking with spinach. It is up to you to choose between accompanying this with potato or fresh tasting Indian paneer cheese.

Mushroom Pilau Rice

Perfectly cooked rice with the added addition of lovely flavoursome mushrooms.

Peshwari Nan

Lovely puffy naan bread stuffed with sultanas and ground almonds – fantastic.
