Brilliant Biryanis

Saturday Jan 29, 2011 | Maharajahs

A Biryani is something a little bit special. It’s a meal in itself complete with meat and rice served with a vegetable curry (spiced to your preference)  all together just asking to be eaten.

Our chefs know how to cook the perfect biryani – combining all the ingredients together and cooking the rice and meat in the same pot means that the intense flavours of the herbs and spices infuse the whole dish perfectly. Our most popular requests are for Lamb and Chicken (the photo above is for our Tandoori Chicken Biryani) – our suggestion would be the succulent Lamb variety and opt for a bit of spice in the accompanying vegetable curry and then adding as much as you can handle!

Because everything is together – ordering a Biryani means that if you don’t want anything else, you really won’t need it – although a pile of chapattis at the side is the perfect accompaniment – and means you don’t even need cutlery!

Featured Dish – Lamb Tikka Bhuna

Saturday Jan 29, 2011 | Featured Dishes, Maharajahs

Fresh from the tandoor the lamb is added to a sauce rich in onions and coriander. This medium spiced dish is perfect with chapattis to wrap around the lamb – the texture of the wholemeal bread complementing the melt in the mouth lamb perfectly.

Featured Dish – Zeera Chicken Tikka

Saturday Jan 29, 2011 | Featured Dishes, Maharajahs

Zeera means cumin – and it’s a taste that you will enjoy throughout this dish. The beautiful chicken is coated in a rich sauce ready to be enjoyed with lovely freshly cooked rice and a lovely naan.

Featured Dishes for January

Saturday Jan 29, 2011 | Featured Dishes, Maharajahs

This months dishes are Two Tikka specialities. Creating a Tikka dish is a labour of love with a wide range of herbs and spices added to a marinade to flavour and tenderise the meat with a fantastic rich taste. This meat is then barbecued in the intense heat of the tandoor (a clay oven) to both seal and enhance the flavours.

A Burn’s Night Curry

Sunday Jan 23, 2011 | Maharajahs

On 25th of January we celebrate the birth of Scotlands great poet Robert Burns. Only 1 month after Christmas we find ourselves with another evening of tradition – the Burns Supper. This meal centres around a main course of haggis, potato and neeps – ideally followed by a dram of whisky.

We don’t think it’s overly controversial to say that haggis is a dish that divides opinion, with some people loving it whilst others can’t think of anything less appealing.

Here at Maharajahs Indian Restaurant and Takeaway we have an alternate suggestion for the evening – just order a curry! You can invite your friends and family for a less traditional Burns Supper by giving them a great Indian feast – if you really feel the need to stick to tradition we suggest that you enjoy a fine whisky to wash the meal down!

Recommended Takeaway Order – January

Monday Jan 17, 2011 | Maharajahs, Recommended Takeaway Orders

The following selection is a recommendation for a curry night in for two. The dishes selected are designed to satisfy two people who like dishes at opposite ends of the spiciness scale with some that sooth and some that are on fire!

Starter – Prawn Puri and Chicken Pakora

If I could – I would just have Prawn Puri for the whole meal. Lovely spiced prawns are served with a beautiful puffed bread for dipping and wrapping. Along with this is the classic Chicken Pakora – chicken breast fried in batter and served with salad and dips – lovely and cooling.

Main Courses – North Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken and Shahjahani Lamb Pasanda

These two couldn’t be more different. The fiery heat and intense flavour of the Chilli and Garlic in the lamb versus the mild almond flavoured Pasanda. If the chicken is a bit too hot – a mouthful of the lamb will cool you down in an instant.

Sides – Sag Aloo and a Garlic Nan

The classic Sag Aloo (spinach and potato) side dish rich with cumin seeds and the beautiful taste of Nan Bread coated with a rich garlic butter – designed for dipping.

A perfect feed for two – why not give it a try?
