Mother’s Day at Maharajahs

Sunday Mar 7, 2010 | Maharajahs, Restaurant, Takeaway

Do you think Mother’s Day is just a money making scheme for those card companies – or do you think it’s a great a day to celebrate you good old mum?  Either way – this is the day you have to spoil her to thank her for all those changed nappies, nursing cuts and bruises and all those lovely hot meals.

Whatever happens – you need to give her a nice treat – take her out for dinner or even cook her a nice meal – anything to make her feel special.

Book a table or order a take away

Here at Maharajah we can help you make this easy – order one of our fantastic Indian meals to takeaway (you can even pretend you cooked it) – or bring her into our restaurant and spoil her here.  We’re getting busy – so give us a call on 0131 466 7281 and book a table and let her put the marigolds down for an evening!

We use only fully Halal ingredients

Monday Feb 22, 2010 | Halal, Maharajahs, Restaurant, Takeaway

Halal Menu

We’re proud to say – not only is our food fantastically authentic – everything that goes into it has to just be exactly so. This means that the all of the meat, and all of the different ingredients in our fantastic curries are halal.

For those of you unaware of what this means – it means that all our food meets the requirements of Muslim dietary law – but don’t worry it certainly doesn’t mean any reduction in flavour – our food all tastes as great as you would expect.

We’re also know that not everyone eats meat – for a number of reasons. Rest assured if you don’t, our wide range of vegetarian curries will more than satisfy your needs.

Top Vegetarian Dishes

Thursday Feb 4, 2010 | Maharajahs, Restaurant

Are you a non-meat eater/vegetarian, do you just fancy a break from eating meat for an evening or do you just want to try something different? Here are three dishes we’d recommend you try.

Panir Massallam

Panir is a classic ingredient in real Indian food – for the uninitiated – it’s similar to Cottage Cheese. This is a mildly spiced dish with fresh herbs and spices complementing the freshness of the Panir.

Sag Aloo Delight

Sag Aloo is a renowned classic accompany to any Indian meal – and available at almost all Indian restaurants across the country. Our Sag Aloo delight augments this classic dish with the addition of coriander – one of the great curry ingredients, and mustard seed to create quite a spicy dish.

Sabzi Panir Jalfrezie

You should know what Panir cheese is from description of the mild curry above. The Sabzi Panir Jalfrezie is a spicier dish –with fresh coriander, chilli and ginger adding some heat to the coolness of the Panir.

Maharajah’s Most Popular Meal Order

Monday Feb 1, 2010 | Maharajahs

Not sure what to have when you come and eat with us – or just keen to enjoy a meal that offers some of the best of what we offer? Either way – this meal is one of the most popular with our customers and one we can recommend to all of.

Chicken Pakora followed by North Indian Chilli Garlic Chicken with a Garlic Nan and a serving of Pilau Rice.

Chicken Pakora

A classic dish – pieces of boneless chicken – dipped in batter and deep fried – served with some fresh crunchy salad and a superb dipping sauce.

North Indian Chilli Garlic Chicken

We’ve described this dish before – if you’re concerned about it being too spicy order a nice side of Cucumber Raita to help take away the heat!

Garlic Nan

Nan bread is always fantastic with any meal. We offer a range – the meaty Keema to the sweet Peshwari. Our recommendation is the garlic nan – perfectly flavoured with a taste of garlic and butter that complements any dish.

Pilau Rice

Lovely fresh rice subtly flavoured and coloured by a range of spices including saffron, cardamom and cloves. The perfect accompaniment to any meal.

Valentines Day – A Meal of Love

Sunday Jan 31, 2010 | Maharajahs, Restaurant, Takeaway

Valentines Day is coming up quick, with restaurant bookings across the city of Edinburgh filling up by the second. At Maharajahs we promise a meal and evening as exotic as you would wish – starting off with a rose and chocolates for the lady in your life as you arrive at our door.

Whether or not you are a connoisseur of Indian food we can recommend a menu that is guaranteed to hit the spot on this special day.

If you’re not wanting to venture out on February 14th (for whatever reason) we’ll still be delivering – and can make your special meal (be it for one or two) perfect.

Here’s our recommendations for the evening – there are plenty more we can give you on the day if you want further guidance.  To book a table, call us on 0131 466 7281.

Starter

We’d recommend 2 different dishes. Whether you order one or both, we’re happy to see you share.

King Prawn Puri

A lovely dish of fresh prawns in a medium spiced sauce served with puffed fresh bread to mop up the juices.

Chicken Sheek Kebab

Minced chicken meat – spiced with a hint of garlic. Barbecued to perfection and served with fresh salad and sauce.

Main Course

We’re recommending 2 main courses one lamb and one chicken. The lamb dish is the hotter of the two – a perfect chance to warm up the evening.

Chicken Tikka Massallam

North Indian Chilli Gosht

Rice Dish

Mushroom Pilau

Pilau rice goes well with any dish, the grains of rice being flavoured by the classic mix of spices. Add to this the lovely taste of pieces of mushroom to really complement any meal.

Bread

Garlic Nan

Everybody loves a Garlic Nan – a real treat of freshly cooked bread spread with garlic.

Dessert

Ras Malai

Dumplings made from panir cheese delicately flavored with cardamom. Chilled and a wonderful end to a wonderful evening.

Maharajah’s Most Popular Curries

Saturday Jan 23, 2010 | Maharajahs

Chicken Tikka Massallam

We cook two supreme Chicken Tikka Massallam dishes – the Shahi Murgh Tikka Massallam and the Kathmandu Murgh Tikka Massallam.

The name ‘roughly’ translates as follows:

  • Murgh - Chicken
  • Tikka - pieces
  • Massallam – a mixture of spices
  • Shahi and Kathmandu – relate to the cities and countries of origin of the each dish – and therefore the subtle mix of spices and flavours included. Shahi gives the dish more Indian and Pakistani influences, whilst Kathmandu has inspiration from Nepal.

Both Chicken Tikka Massallam dishes are fantastic – and well worth a try.

North Indian Chilli Garlic Chicken

There is no secret in the main ingredients in this dish – and it is no surprise that this can be one of the spicier specialities that we offer.

This is often a dish that is made as spicy as possible – but our version is toned down to allow the natural flavours to come through and make it a dish to relish. If you want us to spice it up though – just ask!

North Indian Chilli Ghosht

First things first – Ghosht literally means meat – and for our version of this dish – we use fresh and fine lamb.

This is a spicy dish – with fresh chilli, coriander and methi (fenugreek) leaves used to make a luxurious sauce – and creating an intense flavour.

Robert Burns Night

Thursday Jan 21, 2010 | Maharajahs

True Indian food is enjoyed differently across the world.  In India, people often enjoy a curry with a glass of water or whisky.

Whilst we won’t be offering any of the traditional Burns Night dishes – we believe our curry is a great way to celebrate the night of Scotland’s great poet.

Order it with a dram to celebrate Burn’s night – and eat your traditional Indian meal in an even more traditional way!
